Metcalf-Adams letters. 1796-1892.

The collection is divided into 5 groups. Letters to or from identified members of the two families are arranged according to generation: 1. Generation of parents of Joseph Metcalf (JAM) and Chloe Metcalf (CFAM), 1796-1851; 2. Generation of JAM and CFAM, including relatives and friends, 1812-1860; and 3. Generation of JAM and CFAM's children, nieces, nephews, etc., 1843-1892. The fourth group appears to have originated in Conn., has comments on schools and education and contains letters to Frederick Gunn, founder of the Gunnery School in Washington, Conn. The fifth has related background materials and photographs.
